What the critics are saying...

Ben’s landscape photos have commanding presence and draw the viewer in to appreciate detail and beauty in the world around us. He clearly has an eye for arresting composition within tight framing, especially evident in Devil’s Pool, Tranquility, Ancient Purple and Abandoned Sunset. Pastel Fire calls out to be printed in a big format canvas triptych. While the Fitzroy Island images evoke languid daydreaming, especially captivating is the humble majesty of the trees in Camouflage Forest and The Cathedral.

In a world awash with images it takes courage to choose to be a photographer. Finding those moments in nature is an act of faith. There is sensing the possibility, an awareness of light, scale and framing, but fundamentally the exercise of patience is the skill that must be honed. This collection of work by Ben Cantelo – particularly in Abandoned Sunset and Fire Trails – show all these attributes at play. In the viewing, technique falls away and you are left with wonder at the natural world.
